Laws of war commission created

The Government today has created a national commission to deal with international humanitarian law, also known as the laws of war or laws of armed conflicts. Moldova is a party to 30 relevant international treaties, but doesn’t have the instruments needed to enforce those provisions, argued the Government.

The Commission’s role will be to propose measures at the national level to achieve compliance with international humanitarian law and to prevent violations thereof. It will also issue legal briefs for relevant legislative proposals and recommendations on the ratification of international treaties in the field.

The Commission will include representatives of a number of ministries. The nominal composition will be decided by the Minister of Justice, which will head the Commission. The Commission will meet twice a year.
