The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on April 12 promulgated the law to ratify the agreement on the joint control of persons, units of transport and goods at joint Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points. The decree was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who went to Kyiv to take part in the Security Forum, IPN reports.

According to the press service of the Government of Moldova, the law was ratified by the Supreme Rada of Ukraine on March 1. The coming into force of the agreement after promulgation will enable to extend the joint control at all the Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points. The joint border control was launched at the Cuchurgan-Pervomaisk point that is situated on Ukraine’s territory in July 2017.

Pavel Filip and Petro Poroshenko said that a more efficient fight against crime and smuggling at the border will be ensured and regional security will be increased this way. Among the priorities for the immediate future, the officials mentioned the opening of the bridge between Unguri and Boronita and hastening of the process of demarcating the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border.

Pavel Filip approved of the advanced level of the discussions between the two states, noting that a series of events designed to consolidate the bilateral dialogue will be staged this year. In May, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Tudor Ulianovschi will pay a visit to Ukraine. In June, Chisinau will host a meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Member States of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM.

For his part, Petro Poroshenko expressed his conviction that these and other events will contribute to advancing the Moldovan-Ukrainian relations, including in the commercial - economic sector, and reaffirmed his commitment to help fulfill all the measures planned in concert.
