President Vladimir Voronin promulgated the Law on Asylum in Moldova on Thursday, March 5, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the presidential press service. The law provides the framework needed for the asylum system to work efficiently, in accordance with the European and international norms. It regulates the legal status of the foreigners that seek protection in Moldova, the legal status of the beneficiaries of a protection form, the procedure for granting and cancelling protection in Moldova. Such a law was needed as the expanding migration determined the modification of the asylum standards, while the law on the status of refugees of 2002 does not appropriately regulate the cases that appear in this area. The Law on Asylum in Moldova was adopted on December 18, 2008.
