Law on assessment of FDI to match international practice

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure is drafting a bill on the assessment of foreign direct investment (FDI) according to the international practice. The issue was discussed by Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Anatol Usatyi and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan in a meeting, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry.

The sides agreed that an additional mechanism should be worked out to also assess the local investment, not only the FDI, by the example of other states.

According to the minister, by a decision made by Prime Minister Ion Chicu on January 27 this year, an inter-institutional working group was set up to carry out a study of the activity of the ombudsperson in the business score and an analysis of the institutional and financial impact.

In this connection, Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan said USAID is ready to offer all the necessary assistance in strengthening the capacities.

Trade between Moldova and the United States in January – November 2019 was worth over US$ 90 million, an increase of 6% compared with the corresponding period last year. By the volume of bilateral trade, the U.S. ranks 18th among Moldova’s top trading partners.
