Ten awards and 11 honorable mentions on January 16 were handed over to young people from Chisinau who in 2018 distinguished themselves in literature, arts, science, technology and civic activism. The laureates of the Municipal Youth Award 2018 received medals, diplomas and money awards of 10,000 lei and, respectively, of 2,000 lei for the honorable mentions, IPN reports.
Head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Rodica Guțu said the institution will support the young people so that they continue to distinguish themselves. “The results achieved by these young people should be employed at home,” she stated.
Vasilii Graur, scientific researcher at the State University of Moldova, won the science award. He said the nomination is unexpected even if he took part in the contest the previous years as well. The award motivates him to work further.
Doctor of Sciences Ludmila Mosei was awarded for the monography “Ornament – artistic and esthetic phenomenon”. She said she welcomes the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport’s initiative to support the young people, noting the award encourages her to continue her scientific activity and to offer society other valuable works.
Alexandru Bordian was awarded for the book “Inglezi Home”, which is the first novel in the Romanian area about the 1903 pogrom of Chisinau. “Literature makes us better and more combative and is a dissolvent in a dirty reality,” he stated.
Scientific secretary general of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Aurelia Hanganu, secretary of the file examination commission, said the commission’s job wasn’t easy. All of the 23 applicants for the ten awards were excellent. The selection criteria included the publication of works in national and international scientific journals, participation in different scientific events and promotion of the implementation of results in society.
The contest for the Municipal Youth Award in literature, arts, science, technology and civic activism was at its 21st edition.
