Vita Dobele is completing her mandate as Latvia’s chargés d'affaires in Chisinau. In her departure speech, she said Latvia is a close friend of Moldova and thereby interested in everything that is happening here, IPN reports.
The diplomat said that since the Latvian Embassy in Ukraine opened a Chancellery in Chisinau, in 2012, a lot of things have been done that benefited both countries, most of them during the Latvian Presidency of the EU.
According to Vita Dobele, the diplomatic mission had a fruitful cooperation with Moldovan institutions and now the Chancellery is becoming a full-fledged Embassy. This fall, Latvia will send the first ambassador to reside in Chisinau.
She congratulated Moldova on Independence Day and bid our country success on the path towards the EU, in the implementation of reforms, and to become a modern, stable and prosperous country. In her opinion, Moldova is a rich country and its biggest treasure are the gifted people living here.
Her husband, Moldovan Gheorghe Tofan, is also head of the Association of Moldovans in Latvia. He said that he is leaving “one motherland for another” and is confident that “the two motherlands” will always be together.
According to IPN sources, the new Latvian ambassador to Moldova is Atis Lots and will arrive in Chisinau in the near future.
