Latvia to donate Vaxzevria vaccines to Moldova

Latvia will donate Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) vaccines to the Republic of Moldova in support of its fight against the spread of COVID-19 and to increase its daily vaccination number, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Embassy of Latvia in the Republic of Moldova.

In line with Latvia’s continued support to the Eastern Partnership countries, Moldova is to receive vaccines as part of Latvia’s first package of donations to its partner countries on a bilateral basis.

This week the government of Latvia took a decision to donate 165 600 vaccine doses to five countries: Moldova, Georgia, Albania, Montenegro and Kenya.

Vaccine recipients have been selected taking into account Latvia's foreign policy priorities, including supporting stability and promoting cooperation with the countries of the neighboring region.

According to the latest reports of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 3.6% of Moldova’s population has been vaccinated with the first dose, plus 2-3% of the Moldovans who got vaccinated abroad.
