The Embassy of Latvia transmitted a book donation from the National Library of Latvia  to the National Library of the Republic of Moldovan. The books were rigorously selected by librarians in Riga. Ambassador Uldis Mikuts visited the Library to hand over the books. “This donation includes volumes of cultural and historical value for the Republic of Latvia. They are about the Latvian diplomatic traditions, tourist attractions listed by UNESCO as world cultural heritage,” said the director of the National Library Elena Pintilei, being quoted by IPN.

Latvia regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and on May 1, 2004 became an EU member state. “I think these books will open to your readers the windows to learning about of the culture, traditions and tourist attractions of the Republic of Latvia. I’m firmly convinced that possessing knowledge, we can become promoters of the culture and friendship between the two states – Latvia and Moldova,” said Ambassador Uldis Mikuts.

“These documents in Latvian and English will be intended for the general public and for researchers and those interested and will contribute to more fruitful cooperation between our nations,” stated Elena Pintilei.

She noted that the cooperation between the National Libraries of Latvia and the Republic of Moldova is older. Recently, two libertarians of the National Libraries of Moldova went to Riga for a training period. But the pandemic stopped many of the agreed projects.
