Last weekend’s frost endangered budding trees

The ground frost recorded last weekend endangered the budding trees, in particular the early apricot trees. However, according to the State Hydrometeorology Service, the temperatures recorded between March 14 and 20 were higher than the norm for this period. The average temperature was +4.5 degrees Celsius, such a level being recorded once in three years, IPN reports.

According to an analysis by the Service, the weather conditions last week were actually satisfactory for the growth and development of winter crops. The temperatures were favorable enough for sowing spring crops.

Thus, the winter crops in the largest part of the country sprouted. The stems formed in parts and this happened by one month earlier than usual.

The trees also sprouted and the first leaves appeared in parts. In the extreme southern districts, the apricot trees bloomed by one month earlier. The sap continued to circulate in vines.

Contacted by IPN, engineer-forecaster Ala Tuliba said the temperatures recorded this week are typical for this period of the year. The meteorological phenomena like ground frosts, heavy precipitation and high winds are also typical for this month.

The specialist added that the danger of frosts will persist until March 28. Afterward it will grow warmer. Nighttime temperatures in the middle of next week will vary between +3 and +8 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures – between +12 and 17 degrees Celsius.
