The last round of negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement process under the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship in 2013 will take place in Kiev from 25 to 26 November. The agenda includes subjects from the three baskets, spokeswoman for the OSCE Mission to Moldova Paula Redondo has told IPN.
The discussions will center on the full resumption of freight transportation by railroad, the freedom of movement, the problem of schools teaching based on the Latin script, provision of pensions and retransmission of TV channels on both banks of the Nistru River and, possibly, on the status of the Transnistrian region as a component part of Moldova.
In the opening of the meeting, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara will address the participants of the 5+2 negotiations. The next day, Ambassador Andrii Deshchytsia, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for Conflicts; Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Ambassador Jennifer Brush; and Moldovan and Transnistrian Chief Negotiators, Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski, will hold a concluding press briefing.
The meeting in the 5+2 format will gather representatives of the sides, mediators and observers in the negotiation process - Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the United States and the European Union.
Ukraine took over the OSCE Chairmanship from Ireland on January 1 and will hold it until the end of 2013. At the beginning of this year, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara said that Ukraine will contribute to fostering the Transnistrian settlement process in the 5+2 format. The political status of the Transnistrian region is important and Ukraine will insist that it should remain in the agenda of the talks.
