The May 3 protest that involved tens of thousands of people represents the awakening of the people and even the renaissance of the national conscience. Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Political commentator Alexei Tulbure described the protest as peaceful pressure exerted on the power. “It is something that can unite us. It is a chance for realization. The protesters were different by their political orientation, but were united by a common goal. The people came to criticize the power, which says it is European, but behaves as if it is anti-European. It’s normal for the power in a state that claims to be democratic to be criticized,” he stated.
Angela Kolatski, professor of politology at the State University of Moldova, said the protest is a proof of the national renaissance. “I think the protests will continue and they must continue. Regardless of the nationality and language spoken, the people are dissatisfied with the government,” she stated.
Lawyer Andrei Nastase, one of the founders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said the protest involved people who want the government to be replaced. “We didn’t expect that so many people will come to the protest. We hoped many people will come, but our expectations were exceeded. I know that the people look with distrust at what is going on. They weren’t forced or paid to come. They came by themselves, in the name of the truth. The statements that the people were paid and the protest organizers were funded from abroad are absurd. The power must be changed or things in the country will remain the same,” he stated.
