Last stockpile of pesticides in ATU Gagauzia collected

About 60 tonnes of pesticides, which is the last stockpile on the territory of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, have been collected. These will be taken to the SARPI Dabrowa Gornicza plant in Poland to be destroyed, IPN reports.

In an event staged on this occasion in Gaidar village of Ceadar-Lunga district, colonel Mariana Grama, manager of the NATO Partnership for Peace Trust Fund project to destroy pesticides and dangerous chemicals in the Republic of Moldova, said the pesticides were collected in Beșghioz, Gaidar, Joltai, Cazaclia, Chiriet-Lunga, Copceac and Tomai and stored in the central storehouse in Gaidar village of Ceadar-Lunga district.

The about 60 tonnes of dangerous chemicals were prepared for collection by a team that consisted of six service members of the Motorized Infantry Brigade “Stefan cel Mare” together with representatives of a British company and members of the commission for emergencies of ATU Gagauzia.

So far, the Ministry of Defense transported 957 tonnes of pesticides to Poland for disposal of the 1 269 tonnes planned to be collected in the districts of Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Cahul, Calarasi, Comrat, Donduseni, Glodeni, Ialoveni, Leova, Falesti, Soroca, and Taraclia.
