The heavy rain and wind last night downed 18 trees in Chisinau. One of them fell over a car and damaged it. Some houses in Stauceni, Cricova, Ciorescu suburbs and Posta Veche district in Chisinau were left without electricity. The information was presented Thursday, June 24, during the meeting of Municipal Commission for Emergencies, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of the Commission, Veaceslav Pavlov, mentioned the biggest damage was done in Posta Veche, where 4 teams were deployed to repair 2 electricity stations broken by the rain. The chief of Public Transport and Communication Ways Department, Veaceslav Tarna, said the rain drainage on Albisoara, Tiraspol and Muncesti streets was flooded because of the heavy rainfalls. Two other basements in Chisinau were flooded, while 14 drains cracked, according to Petru Gontea, head of the Communal Housing and Administration Department. During the meeting, it was stressed that without a flood-protection system, the barrier lakes in Valea Gastelor, Dobruja and Graties could overflow. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said there were evacuation centers prepared for people and the necessary measures to avoid this situation would be taken.
