Last day of service for Border Guard
The Border Guard and the Bureau of Migration and Asylum will merge, starting July 1, into Border Police. The new structure will subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Ministry’s spokesperson Eugen Onica said that for now the structure will be lead by Border Guard director general Roman Revenco, and once the Law becomes effective the MIA will propose a candidate for this position.
The Border Police will be responsible for combating trans-border criminal activity, criminal prosecution, the examination of contraventions, and judicial expertise of travel documents. The new structure will exercise leadership, coordination and control of the activity in realizing the states policy regarding integrated management of state borders.
Maximum staff limit for the new structure will be 3543, including 335 employees for technical support.
The bill on Border Police passed in December. It was elaborated in the context of implementing the national Strategy of integrated management of state borders, for 2011-2013; it is part of the Moldova’s engagements to the EU, stipulated in the Moldova-EU action plan for the liberalization of the visa regime.
