Pressure and interference through public appearances, aimed at influencing public opinion, the court and all those involved in the case featuring ex-Democratic MP Vladimr Andronachi, have been witnessed in the recent past, his lawyers stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.
According to lawyer Oleg Mîța, on April 19 public opinion was informed that Vladimir Andronachi was transferred from remand detention under house arrest and electronic monitoring equipment was used to supervise him. The bracelet put on his client’s ankle had technical faults. On May 4, he was at home and didn’t take action to take off the device, didn’t distance himself from the device, but the 112 Service was informed about the loss of signal with this, which meant that his client left home. The police officers who came to his home saw that Andronachi was at home and everything was functional.
Later, a series of documents were compiled and these said that Vladimir Andronachi committed particular violations. The lawyer considers these are concerted, artificially organized actions aimed at creating evidence showing that Andronachi violated the imposed conditions. They asked for a judicial examination of the technical equipment from Andronachi’s ankle and the examination report showed that the device was permanently functional and no signs of deterioration were identified. The assertions that Andronachi attempted to manipulate the device are aimed at misleading public opinion, the court and other centers of influence so as to present him as dangerous to society and as a person who does not obey the restrictions imposed by the court.
For her part, lawyer Natalia Bayram said that two events shook public opinion. One of them was the appearance of the representative of the Prosecutor’s Office, who said that Vladimir Andronachi tried to manipulate the ankle bracelet and that he should be remanded in custody. In the hearing, the defense provided evidence showing that Andronachi didn’t commit any violations and didn’t manipulate the bracelet.
Another event was the court’s order to examine the case featuring Andronachi behind closed doors. It was noted that this decision is against the law, the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights. The lawyer explained that the defense argued in favor of the examination of the case in closed hearings because the evidence included conversations between the spouses and relatives and the right to respect for private life of their client should not be violated. Also, almost 80% of the documents attached to the file were collected from banks and the prosecutors themselves said that these documents represent bank and commercial secret.
The lawyer also said that the statements made recently by representatives of different institutions in public do nothing but mislead public opinion and society about the fact that Vladimir Andronachi was convicted long ago and deserves his punishment, but the authorities are obliged to respect the principle of presumption of innocence.
