Largest number of education graduates accept teaching jobs assigned by Ministry

This year the Ministry of Education and Research has 407 education graduates, the largest number in recent years, who accepted assigned jobs after graduation. This was announced by Minister Dan Perciun in a news conference.

“We have announced that our priority is attracting young people to the educational system. You know very well that we are facing a shortage of teaching staff, with an aging system. And attracting young people has been a major priority. We have good news: we have the largest number in recent years of young people assigned after graduating. We have 407 new teaching contracts”, said the minister.

The Ministry expects that by the start of the academic year, there will be a few more contracts. “In any case, compared to the previous year, we already see a 15% increase in this number. And also a 35% increase compared to the five-year average. We can say with certainty that it is becoming increasingly attractive for education graduates to choose jobs in [the public] education system”, stated Dan Perciun.

Earlier, the Ministry announced 1800 vacant teaching positions. The biggest shortage of teachers is faced by Chisinau.

To attract more young people into the system, the Ministry increased the number of subsidized university places in education programs to 2,500, and doubled the monthly stipends (up to 3,460 lei for final-year students), among other measures. More perks were also promised to novice teachers.
