The largest emergency unit in the north of the country was officially opened at the Balti Clinical Hospital after extensive reconstruction and outfitting with modern medical equipment. The unit is about 2,000 square meters in area, IPN reports.
During the inaugural event, Balti Clinical Hospital director Gheorghe Brînza said that the department was provided with state-of-the-art medical equipment, which will allow doctors and nurses to faster deal with medical-surgical emergencies.
"Every year, we serve over 55,000 people who pass through the Emergency Admissions Unit of the Balti Clinical Hospital. These 55,000 patients are served by 170 employees of the unit. We handle all medical-surgical emergencies – pediatric, maternity and adult," noted the director.
Present at the event, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said that Balti serves not only patients in the municipality, but also covers the most serious cases in the entire northern part of the country. That is why appropriate equipment and conditions are needed to provide high-quality medical services, and patients since the step into feel that they can trust this institution.
"Computed tomography, Doppler ultrasonography, digital radiography, endoscopy and many other types of scans that are very necessary, especially when there are critical patients. The rooms are equipped with air filtration, purification, sterilization, decontamination systems," noted the minister.
The project started in 2019 within a cross-border SMURD-2 program, with funding of about 2 million lei granted by the European Commission. A sum of 46.2 million lei was allocated from the state budget and over 4 million lei came from the National Health Insurance Company. The equipment and furniture were purchased with the support of the WHO and the United Nations Population Fund, with over 15 million lei provided in grant funding.
