Larger number of consumers will be able to set up photovoltaic panels

The National Agency for Energy Regulation increased the capacity limit for private individuals and legal entities that can produce energy from renewable sources in the net metering support scheme from 5% to 10%, IPN reports.

Together with such a decision, a larger number of end users, including residential customers, will be able to set up photovoltaic panels and to supply the monthly surplus to the electricity grid, said Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

At the end of the month, the smart meter will determine the amounts of electricity produced and supplied to the customer’s network and the amount of power consumed from the grid. If the users consumed more than they produced, they will pay the difference at the end of the month. The supplier with which the contracts were signed will monitor these annual quantities and each year at the end of March will pay to the residential producers of renewable energy the sums accumulated from the surplus of power supplied during a year.

Photovoltaic power stations with a summary power of 16.8 MW have been connected to the grid so far. Also, there were issued notices of connection with a summary power of 62.0 MW.
