Larger fines sought for unauthorized transportation of passengers

The offense of transporting passengers without a proper authorization could carry a fine six times larger than at present, of up to 900 conventional units, under a proposal submitted to the Government by the Ministry of Transportation. “Unauthorized transportation of passengers has become a habitual activity for an increasingly large number of persons, simply because there isn't a clear legal procedure to sanction the offenders”, stated Transportation Minister Anatol Salaru. According to him, 30 percent of the domestic passenger transportation activity is unauthorized, which causes considerable damage to the state budget. “In 2009 the damage caused to the state was 95 million lei and in 2010 amounted to 100 million lei”, noted Anatol Salaru.
