Hundreds of people, who included politicians, came together in front of the Constitutional Court that is examining the constitutionality of the Parliament decision to declare a state of emergency for the period between April 1 and May 30. The participants chanted “We will not give up” and “Snap elections!”, IPN reports.
“The epopee of the attack on the Court is ultimately over. The Court resisted, the Constitution resisted and their attack was annihilated. The intruder they tried to push through the back door gave up. The Prosecutor’s Office is to determine what this was. But we see that it was an attack on the Court, on the Constitution,” said the acting president of the PAS Igor Grosu. He noted everyone realizes that the state of emergency was declared against the people and in favor of them so that Parliament could not be dissolved.
PAS MP Lilian Carp said there is only one way, namely the victory, and for the purpose the people should be united, as they are now. Today there will be taken a decision by which the state of emergency should be annulled so as to open the way for snap elections.
PAS MP Veronica Roșca said that an exceptional event is taking place today and for the first time the people came together not to protest, but to support an institution that had the courage to say a firm “No” to the thieves. “Today we came here to support the dignity of the Constitutional Court,” stated Veronica Roșca, noting that the snap elections are the only method for resuscitating the Republic of Moldova.
Applications to check the constitutionality of the Parliament decision to declare a state of emergency were filed to the CC by MPs Sergiu Litvinenco, Veronica Roșca and Octavian Țîcu. They argued that in accordance with the law, the state of emergency is declared by Parliament at the request of the plenipotentiary Government or the President. But the given request was now made by a group of MPs. Also, the decision does not stipulate the urgent measures that should be taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations, but this runs counter to the Constitution and to the law on the state of emergency, siege or war.
On March 31, Parliament adopted the decision to declare a state of emergency following a relevant proposal submitted by Socialist MPs Vasile Bolea, Alexandr Suhodolski and Alla Dolința. Then, the opposition said it was a plan aimed at delaying the snap elections as the legislative body during the state of emergency, siege or war cannot be dissolved.
