Large part of Transnistrians are in favour of country's reunification, NGO

A large part of the residents of Transnistria want the country to be reunified, though the statistical data show the opposite, the head of the Ukrainian Association of Middle East Studies (AMES) Alexandr Bogomolov said during a seminar themed “The Transnistrian crisis: human dimension”, Info-Prim Neo reports Alexandr Bogomolov said that this is the conclusion of the report compiled by the NGO Mission for Assessing the Situation in Moldova/Transnistria. “The people want this reunification and the resolution of the Transnistrian dispute so that they can move freely and have direct telephone connection,” he said. Those who do not want the country to be reunified have certain fears inspired by the Transnistrian regime or because they consider the union with Russia is more beneficial. Alexandr Bogomolov said there is a totalitarian and censorship regime in the region that manipulates the people. The people who believe that Transnistria must remain separated from Chisinau formed such an opinion during the eight years while the Communists Party had been in power. The totalitarian and non-transparent behaviour of the former government made the people to form a wrong opinion about the opportunity of reunifying the country. According to the expert, the Moldovan constitutional authorities must make effort to resolve the dispute, which is rather a political than social problem.
