The Chisinau International Airport on January 23 officially enters the category of airports equipped with the ILS CAT III instrument landing system. This certification allows flights to be operated in conditions of extremely low visibility, eliminating previous restrictions and significantly contributing to reducing flight delays and cancellations, IPN reports.
The system provides pilots with accurate information about direction and altitude during landing, even when visibility is close to zero. The ILS CAT III category allows landings in conditions with vertical visibility below 30 meters to zero and horizontal visibility below 300 meters to a minimum of 75 meters.
The use of technology also depends on the level of training of crews and airlines.
The ILS CAT III certification brings major benefits for travelers, minimizing aircraft deviations from schedule, as well as landings at reserve airports, a situation previously frequent in adverse weather conditions.
"Now, the Chisinau International Airport is ready to operate safely even in difficult weather conditions, minimizing discomfort and delays for passengers. This ensures a more predictable travel experience, and passengers can arrive at their destination according to schedule," reads a press release of the airport.
