The landfill in Rezina has been burning for several days and the town is covered with smoke. Firefighters and employees of specialized subdivisions of the local authorities are struggling to extinguish the fire.

Mayor of Rezina Simion Tatarov has told IPN that the urban waste dump is about 3 hectares in area. This is managed by the Rezina Public Utilities Service. The cause of fire is not yet known. Am investigation is under way.

The landfill is situated in the industrial area near three plants, a metallurgical one and two cement plants.

Press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies Liliana Pușcașu has told IPN that the firefighters started the operation on November 3. There is no flame, but the fire is smoldering at depth and it is thus more difficult to put it out.
