Lack of appropriate swimming places makes people bathe in unclean lakes
Although vets have warn about the threats of swimming in lakes and even in the Nistru River, the hot weather and the shortage of appropriate swimming places made Chisinau residents bathe in unclean lakes and ponds located in the capital and nearby it.
According to the Centre for Preventive Medicine, the majority of pools and ponds have been discovered to have the cholera vibrios and other health hazardous bacilli. Dysentery, salmonellosis and other intestinal diseases as the A viral hepatitis occur due to an inappropriate quality of water, the vets say. Besides, the sand, which stayed unchanged for many years, is also a source of infections and diseases.
“We have placed several announcements to show that swimming is prohibited but the citizens ignore these requests” say the representatives of the Association of Green Places Management.
Several people who were spending their leisure time at the pond in Rascani district told Info-Prim Neo they are indignant at the fact that veterinarians do nothing but establish the level of pollution without trying to somehow improve the situation. Citizens believe that a potential project could interest foreign investors. People are also bewildered by the way the Vatra Lake and its beach look like – abandoned and ignored – a resort that once hosted lots of Chisinau residents.
According to meteorologists, the temperatures will stay high for several days more, with 31-33° C on weekend.
There are 6 recreational zones with artificial or natural bodies of water in Chisinau and its suburbs: 2 of them of national importance (Vadul lui Voda and Ghidighici) and 4 of regional importance (“La izvor”, “Valea Morilor”, “Valea Trandafirilor” and ”Rascani”)
