The State Labor Inspectorate this year has recorded over 300 accidents at work, 19 of which were fatal. The victims include a woman and a minor, IPN reports.
Sixty-nine of the total accidents investigated by labor inspectors were classed as serious work accidents that involved 62 persons, including 10 women. The largest number of accidents at work happened in the construction sector. They included eight serious accidents and four fatal. Four lethal cases occurred in agriculture, while 16 serious cases in the processing industry
Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga told a news conference that the accidents at four units working in the processing industry and agriculture were caused by explosions. Six persons were hurt in them. Eleven persons poisoned themselves at a dairy factory as a result of a leakage of ammoniac from the refrigerating installation.
The minister said all the materials on the given cases were sent to the law enforcement bodies for examination. In 2013 the labor inspectors sent to court over 400 reports concerning violations at the workplace.
The violations were the result of inappropriate security at work. Most of the inspected companies do not have protection and prevention services. Neither the employers nor the employees suggested creating work security and health committees.
