Labor Inspectorate employee arrested by anticorruption officers

An employee of the Labor Inspectorate was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion that he asked for €700 for hushing up a work accident that resulted in the death of a person. When he was arrested, the man pleaded not guilty and gave the money voluntarily.

According to a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center, the man faces five to ten years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 lei.

Contacted by IPN, the Labor Inspectorate’s head Dumitru Stavila said that only the court can decide whether the arrested inspector is guilty or not. But, in order to avoid such situations, he will hold meetings with local inspectors and will carry out other activities aimed at preventing corruption.
