Labor inspector gets seven years for acts of corruption

An employee of the Labor Inspectorate was sentenced to seven years in jail for acts of corruption, IPN reports.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, when carrying out an inspection at a business entity in Vulcanesti town in May 2014, the inspector asked money from the firm manager for not penalizing this for alleged illegal hirings. The inspector was arrested by prosecutors and anticorruption officers immediately after he received 2,000 lei.

By the same sentence, the inspector was fined 140,000 lei and was banned from holding particular posts in the public sphere for a period of seven years. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
