Labor Code amended

The bill to amend and supplement the Labor Code of the Republic of Moldova was passed by Parliament in the final reading, IPN reports.

The bill was drafted by a tripartite working group created under the aegis of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family. The new provisions of the Labor Code refer to the elimination of cases of unjustified conclusion of individual work contracts for a determined period, extension of probation for unskilled workers with a view to effectively determining their professional aptitudes and the possibility of terminating the individual work contract by the written consent of the sides.

The new provisions allow the unit manager and deputy heads and the chief accountant to tender their resignation whenever they want, not only in the cases stipulated in the individual work contract, regulate in detail the dismissal procedure in connection with the transfer to another job, increase the period for keeping the confidential data, in accordance with the EU practices, and extend the term of the unpaid leave from 60 calendar days to 120 days

According to the authors, this law will help to harmonize the Labor Code with the provisions of other legal acts, to improve the current labor legislation, to make the labor legislation more flexible and to adjust it to the modern requirements of the market economy and to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of both of the sides in the work relations are respected.
