The International Center “La Strada”, on the occasion of the new school year, reminds the parents about the risks they take when they choose to make public pictures showing children. “La Strada” launched an appeal by which it explains why photos with minors should not be posted on the Internet, IPN reports.

According to “La Strada”, during the last few years every school year beginning comes with a multitude of photos with children on social networking sites. In such conditions, few are those who realize that the Internet actually does not have the ‘delete’ order and there is a very fine border between online socialization and danger, which are one ‘click’ far from each other.

Among the risks faced when posting pictures with children are the localization of children, creation of a digital print without the child’s consent, vulnerability before swindlers. According to members of the Center, the publication of photos with children enables wrongdoers to identify these. The situation is even worse if the photo is accompanied by a comment or reveals were the child studies.

At an early age, when the child does not yet know what this is, he has already the right to an own virtual identity. “The posted photos or the stories from the private life of the child that we relate on social networking sites leave a digital print as regards the child’s identity. In several years, the pictures published now will form the basis of the child’s virtual image. The stories that seem nice to parents in several years can be perceived as embarrassing by the child or this can even consider that his private life was violated,” says the Center’s appeal.

Therefore, the parents are urged to resist the temptation to post photos, personal data or other information from the child’s private life on the Internet or to make this information accessible only to a narrow group of people such as close friends or family members.
