Kolkhoz system destroyed entrepreneurial spirit of people, press club meeting

The agricultural production cooperatives in the form of kolkhozes that existed in the Republic of Moldova destroyed the entrepreneurial spirit of the people because these didn't enable the people to develop business ideas and to work individually. These types of cooperatives formed whole generations of executors. The issue was discussed in a press club meeting staged by the Independent Journalism Center, IPN reports.

According to the UNDP Moldova representative Ghennady Ivashchenko, from statistical viewpoint, in agriculture and in rural areas only 2% of the people can organize technological processes and can create workplaces. The other 98% are executors who wait for someone to give them work. This happens because entrepreneurial abilities haven't been developed in time. "We apportioned land to people who do not have entrepreneurial spirit. We have to wait for land redistribution and consolidation in agriculture," he stated.

The UNDP Moldova representative also said that almost all the villages are not ready to receive investments because they do not have developed infrastructure and this is a problem in rural areas.

According to the representtaive of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family Ana Gherganov, to develop the entrepreneurial spirit, the state must educate the young generation. "Emphasis must be laid on education, including through international programs. We must raise specialists who will be as competitive as those from Austria and Germany, but will work in the Republic of Moldova," she stated.

Mayor of Chiscareni village of Sangerei district Silvia Turcanu said the state must return with the face to the village. "The villagies are empty. The libraries and homes of culture are closed. We have potential and there are skilfull people, but these do not have where to develop their abilities," she said.

The participants in the press club meeting said an intellectual society cannot develop in ten years. Such a process can last for up to a century. On the other hand, if Moldova does not grow during the next decade, it will remain without people as a result of migration.
