Constituency No. 1 Briceni includes Briceni town, Lipcani town and another 26 localities that form part of Briceni descript and also two localities of Ocnița district – Corestăuți and Hădărăuți. The electors there will vote at polling places No. 1/1-1/42. The winner in the single-member constituency is the candidate who wins the largest number of votes, regardless of the voter turnout.
The Democratic Party’s candidate Mihail Gnatiuc is the first on the ballot. He is the head of Briceni district. Mihail Gnatiuc, who is a jurist by profession, together with his wife declared salaries of over 426,000 lei for the period between January 1, 2017 and December 26, 2018. In the period, the candidate also received almost 109,000 lei in early old-age pension and disability pension. His wife got over 46,000 lei in old-age pension and 90,000 lei in financial assistance. According to the property and personal interests statement of April 2018, Mihail Gnatiuc and his family have owned a house that is 166 square meters in area since 1994, to the value of 230,000 lei. The family also owns two apartments bought in 2005 and, respectively, 2006, and two garages.
MP and president of Party of Socialists Zinaida Grecheanyi, who is an economist by profession, comes under No. 2 on the ballot. The politician served as first deputy prime minister in the Tarlev 2 Government and then as Premier. During January 1, 2017 – December 24, 2018, Zinaida Grecheanyi gained over 283,000 lei in salary and almost 26,000 lei in MP allowances. In the period, the politician received over 254,000 lei in pension and 12,000 lei in state nominal allowances. Over 5,000 lei was earned from leasing out land. According to the property and personal interests statement, Zinaida Grecheanyi and her family owns a house that is 273 square meters in area (bought in 2007), three pieces of land, a car and a 100% holding in the trading company ÎI “Greceanîi Alexei” based in Chisinau municipality.
Agronomist Vasilii Petrashishin, fielded by the Shor Party, is third on the ballot. The businessman from Briceni founded and manages the companies SRL Firma Nord (registered in 1992) and ÎI “Vasile Petrașișin” (registered in 2007), which perform trading activities. From January 1, 2017 until December 31,2018, the candidate gained 12,000 lei while working as the state’s representative in commercial organizations. The family also earned 172,800 lei from other legal sources (pensions, scholarships, allowances, awards, intellectual property rights, etc.).
Economist Anatolie Creciun, who serves as the first secretary of the Briceni District Committee of the Party of Communists, was placed under No. 4. During January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2018, the candidate’s family earned 144,000 lei in salary. Anatolie Creciun also gained 27,000 lei in pension and allowances.
Vladimir Scutari, of the Electoral Bloc ACUM Platform DA and PAS, is under No. 5. Between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018, the candidate’s family received over 31,000 lei in pension.
