Klaus Iohannis wins second term as President of Romania

On Sunday, November 24, Klaus Iohannis has won a second term as President of Romania. In the runoff presidential elections, after counting the votes from all the polling stations in Romanian, Klaus Iohannis, PNL candidate, accumulated over 63% of the voters' votes, while Viorica Dăncilă, PSD candidate - almost 37% of the votes, IPN reports.

Voter turnout has been just a little over nine million, which represents almost 50% of Romania's population. To these data there will be added the votes of Romanians from the diaspora, who went to the polls in a number of over 900 thousand people.

A term of office for the president of Romania is five years.

According to the Central Election Bureau of Romania, quoted by IPN, over 52 thousand Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova voted in the runoff presidential elections in Romania, which is about ten thousand more than in the first round held two weeks ago.

Citizens who chose to cast their ballots in the Romanian presidential elections, could do so at one of the 37 polling stations opened by the Romanian embassy on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, for three days, November 22-24. It is not yet known for whom they have voted.
