Klaus Iohannis to Pavel Filip: Moldova can count on Romania’s support

The Republic of Moldova can count on Romania’s support in doing reforms and on its path of European integration, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip on January 26. He assured that Romania is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the Romanian head of state noted that Pavel Filip took up his duties in a difficult period of time. “You have a great chance to reestablish political, economic and financial stability in the Republic of Moldova by firm reforms implemented till the end and to ultimately restore the feeling of safety and that that there is a Government that deals with the problems of Moldova and its people,” said Klaus Iohannis.

During the discussion, the Moldovan Premier expressed his recognition for the messages of support and encouragement coming from the Romanian authorities, saying these are very important for overcoming the sociopolitical and economic crisis faced by the country. He also said that without the support of Romania and other external development partners, it will be hard to achieve the key objectives set by the Moldovan executive.

“The Government I head is firmly determined to take concrete measures to promote the country’s European development course and implement the reforms stipulated in the Association Agreement with the EU, and to reestablish the cooperation relations with the external development partners,” said Pavel Filip.

Earlier today, the Moldovan Premier had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Dacian Ciolos. He is to also meet with the President of the Senate of Romania Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and with the President of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Stefan Zgonea.
