Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in its European integration efforts regardless of the statements made recently by President Igor Dodon, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis said in the annual meeting with resident ambassadors in Bucharest, IPN reports.
“The Republic of Moldova needs stability and the responsible involvement, I underline responsible, of all the political and institutional factors in continuing and strengthening the reform process. These reforms are essential for modernizing the state and supporting the European course for the benefit of the Moldovan citizens,” stated Klaus Iohannis.
He reasserted Romania’s firm support for the European future of the Republic of Moldova and underlined Romanian’s readiness for developing the Strategic Partnership for Moldova’s European Integration, for continuing the bilateral cooperation projects with the Government and the local authorities of Moldova.
Klaus Iohannis said the strategic objective laid down in the recently adopted plan of action on the relations between Romania and Moldova is to support the clear and irreversible orientation of the Republic of Moldova to the EU and the pro-European connection of Chisinau so that this builds powerful institutions and solid democracy. Romania can and should play a principal role and invest more in this process.
While in Moscow on a visit, Igor Dodon said the EU-Moldova Association Agreement could be denounced after the parliamentary elections of 2018 if the Party of Socialists wins a majority of seats in these.
