Klaus Iohannis: Moldova enjoys sustainable support in Bucharest

The President of Romania Klaus Iohannis said the Republic of Moldova enjoys overwhelming, sustainable and cross-party support in Bucharest. The Romanian political forces are determined to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and to advance the reform process. The statements were made in the event in which Moldova’s new Ambassador to Romania, Victor Chirilă presented his credentials, IPN reports.

President Iohannis underscored that Romania and the Republic of Moldova are united by very strong ties – the common language, culture and history.

The initiation of new projects, besides the existing ones, was a separate subject of the discussions held at the Cotroceni Palace. Klaus Iohannis underlined the necessity of broader cooperation between the Foreign Affairs Ministries of the two states so as to create interactions at multiple levels and to switch over from statements to deeds. He expressed his confidence that the meeting of the two governments planned for the start of this year will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Victor Chirilă highly appreciated the evolution of the bilateral relations at political and economic levels, noting that the strategic partnership between the two states should be implemented as this is synonymous with the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. He stressed the necessity of finalizing a number of bilateral documents, primarily the non-reimbursable technical assistance agreement that could be signed in the meeting of the two executives.
