Romanian’s President Klaus Iohannis, in a telephone conversation with his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Timofti, voiced hope that the Parliament of Moldova will soon vote in a representative government with a firm European agenda, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the dialogue initiated by Nicolae Timofti centered on the analysis of the post-electoral political developments in Moldova. The Moldovan head of state informed Klaus Iohannis about the pace of the talks on the formation of a parliamentary majority, expressing his conviction that the leaders of the parliamentary parties will obey the legal terms for constituting a government coalition that would ensure the continuity of Moldova’s European course.
Klaus Iohannis said that Moldova can count on Romania’s support in achieving its strategic objective of joining the European Union.
The two heads of state agreed that the conditions needed for Klaus Iohannis to pay a state visit to Moldova, as it was planned for January 22-23, aren’t met. Thus, the visit was rescheduled to take place at a later time, after the executive bodies of Parliament are elected and the new Government of Moldova is invested.
