Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici said the construction of the Ungheni-Chișinău gas pipeline is a courageous and important step by which gas from the EU, including Romania, will come to the Republic of Moldova.
“What we did is a courageous, very good step that will help supply the citizens of the Republic of Moldova with gas regardless of the situation elsewhere,” the minister was quoted by IPN as saying in talk show “Fabrika” produced by Publika TV channel.
Kiril Gaburici noted that the supplies of gas from the Russian Federation are expected to be stable until 2020.
Roman Chircă, director of the Market Economy Institute, said the capacity of the Ungheni-Chișinău gas pipeline will be of 1.5 to 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas a year. This volume is much larger than the annual needs of Moldova. It is yet too early to say at what price the gas that will reach Moldova through this pipeline will be sold.
