Karl Luganov is a suitable candidate for the post of chief of the Animal Protection Section of the Chisinau Municipal Council’s Public Amenities Division, considers civic activist Iana Verber, who said that she is supported also by other defenders of animal rights.

In a news conference at IPN, Iana Verber argued that as he has the necessary experience, Karl Luganov will be able to carry out all professional duties. A new contest to fill the post is to be held in a week. The previous contest was staged fewer than six months ago. Ecaterina Pagu, who was declared winner then, withdrew for family reasons. Therefore, the post should be occupied by the person who had the second best result in the contest and this is Karl Luganov.

The activist noted that irregularities are committed at the necropolis in Chisinau, where animals without an owner are held, while the employees of the Animal Protection Section do not have powers to remove these.

Iana Verber called on the head of the General Public Amenities Division Ion Burdiumov to think well who to name head of the Animal Protection Section. An experienced specialist, not a loyal person is needed there.

Civic activist Lidia Vinogradova said that Karl Luganov works for this section and has a rich experience in the field of animal protection. “But Ion Burdiumov does not want to have experienced employees in the section and does not want to obey the law. He needs a section that would turn a blind eye to different violations of the regulations, which would allow the necropolis to work despite the abuses committed there,” she stated.

According to the activist, Ion Burdiumov ignores the opinion of animal protection organizations and civil society and aims to promote convenient persons to the post of head of the Animal Protection Section.
