Kalman Mizsei: It seems that Austrian OSCE Chairmanship yielded good results

Special Representative of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova during 2007-2011 Kalman Mizsei considers the Austrian OSCE Chairmanship yielded good results. The official, who is very hopeful, said he always considered that the measures to build confidence are a good foundation for the political processes and provide important public benefits to the population, IPN reports.

“It seems that significant progress was made in Vienna in the Transnistrian Settlement Process in the 5+2 format yesterday and the day before yesterday. This implies important confidence building measures in such areas as the Romanian-language schools in Transnistria, possibility for Moldovan farmers to cultivate their land in the areas controlled by the Transnistrian authorities (de facto), recognition of diplomats obtained from the Tiraspol University “Taras Shevchenko” and restoration of the telephone lines between the two sides of the Nistru. And this occurred after the important opening of the bridge in Gura-Bicului, which is an important transit artery,” Kalman Mizsei wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, even if it’s difficult to judge such things from a distance, this news made him hope that the Transnistrian conflict settlement process would be given a new impulse.

The Sides involved in the Transnistrian Settlement Process committed themselves in Vienna to provide solutions to the problem of registration of vehicles in the Transnistrian region so that these are admitted to international road traffic and to the problem of free movement of persons, goods and services between the two sides of the Nistru. As a result of the discussions in the 5+2 format, there was signed a protocol that will serve as a basis for holding the future negotiations.
