Juvenile prisoners learn to deal with aggression

The first group of teenagers from the penitentiary № 2 Lipcani takes part in the training course with psychologists of the International Society for Human Rights - Moldavian Section (ISHR-MS), reports Info-Prim Neo. "We create for them conflict situations and teach to find alternative solutions, - explained Tatiana Silistraru, psychologist of the ISHR-MS. "This is important because the level of recidivism among juvenile prisoners is very high. They all believe that they would never return to prison and will find a job with a good salary. However what I am holding now is the list of those recently released: according to what prison officials said, two of those boys are already on their way back." There are currently 45 adolescents in the penitentiary № 2. Majority of them come from vulnerable families: many are from an orphanage. There is rarely anyone to wait for them back home: some have parents working abroad, while those of the others - drink, or are already dead. "If a boy get’s into prison it's not his own, but his parents’ fault," - said Ina Vutcariov, psychologist of the ISHR-MS. - They still think like a child would, but their actions are so cruel, that it makes your hair stand on end." Trainings are organized within the project "Strengthening Moldova civil society organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention and care for women and juvenile prisoners," funded by the European Union.
