Justice will pronounce on referendum initiated by Platform “Dignity and Truth”, MPs

The referendum initiated by the Platform “Dignity and Truth” is not necessary, but it is the legal system that will pronounce on the issue. The issue was discussed in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

The president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov said the problems invoked by the Platform “Dignity and Truth” were solved. “I don’t want to question the decisions of the courts of law, but the Appeals Court’s judgment concerning the referendum is open to question. It is very costly to hold a referendum. I know that the Central Election Commission already challenged the decision of the Chisinau Appeals Court. I hope the Supreme Court of Justice will clarify this issue,” he stated.

Anatolie Zagorodnyi, one of the 14 MPs who defected from the Party of Communists to the Social-Democratic Platform, also considers that holding a constitutional referendum now is inopportune. “A referendum implies costs, but the problem can be fixed in Parliament. Let’s look and see who is there behind the decision of the Appeals Court. This is one of the persons who are angry because they are not promoted,” he stated.

Liberal MP Roman Botan said the proposal to hold a referendum was aimed at improving someone’s image. “Many of the political players resort to buffoonery so that they are shown on TV. The people must realize that many of the politicians want to actually remain in the spotlight,” he said.

The Chisinau Appeals Court earlier this week classed as illegal the Central Election Commission’s decision to reject the initiative of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” concerning the holding of a constitutional referendum.
