Justice sector reform discussed by Maia Sandu with Venice Commission President

The justice sector reform and corruption fighting were the main subjects discussed in the meeting of the President of Moldova Maia Sandu and the President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio in Strasbourg on April 19, IPN reports.

“I reiterated my priorities during my tenure as President of the Republic of Moldova – authentic reformation of the justice sector and corruption fighting. We discussed the stages that need to be covered to achieve this priorities and the important role played by the Commission’s expertise in completing reforms in the field. I praised the contribution of the experts of the high level working group on the justice sector reform under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, which is essential for the success of the reform I promote,” said the official, being quoted in a press release issued by the presidential press service.

Maia Sandu thanked Gianni Buquicchio for the Venice Commission’s openness shown when it stated its opinions on the functioning of the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova and for his personal involvement in encouraging the changes in the justice sector in Moldova.
