Justice Ministry again refuses to recognize Vasile Tarlev as elected as leader of UCM

The Justice Ministry against refused to register the modifications in the Registry of political parties concerning the election of Vasile Tarlev as the president of Centrist Union from Moldova (UCM) in December 13, 2008, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Ministry's decision, published on its web page, “the cause for the refusal is the fact that the political party did not observe the provisions of the Law on political parties.” Especially, the Ministry finds that the list of the party members does not contain the necessary elements: the series and number of ID cards of members. “The lack of documents provided by the law does not allow for checking the observance of statutory provisions concerning the organization of conferences of territorial organizations, the observance of the norms of representation of delegates for the 5th congress on December 13, 2008, and for insuring the validity of the decisions adopted by the Congress,” reads the decision of the Ministry. At the same time, the Ministry invokes that the decision of electing the president by secret vote was made on October 11, 2008, but it supposes it should have taken after its first refusal on November 18. Vasile Talev was re-elected as the president of the UCM, by secret vote on December 13. Earlier the Justice Ministry refused to register the election of Tarlev on September 27, 2008, arguing that Tarlev was elected by secret vote, contrary to the party's statute. Vasile Tarlev was not found to make comments to the issue.
