More than 300 junior tennis players will take part in the 16th international tournament “Trophy Dimitrie Sturdza” that will be held in Chisinau on February 8-15. Traditionally, the competition takes place under the auspices of the Tennis Federation of Moldova, IPN reports.
The Tennis Federation of Moldova has said that this year the tournament will bring together athletes from Romania, Finland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, the UK, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, Turkey, Belarus, Ukraine, Israel and other states.
The qualifying rounds take place on February 8-9, while the major competitions begin on February 10.
The international tournament “Trophy Dimitrie Sturdza” is intended for players aged between 13 and 18 and bears the name of Prince Dimitrie Sturdza, who became fond of tennis after an accident made him give up skiing. Prince Sturdza lives in Switzerland and is one of the founders of the tournament.
