June 14 is World Blood Donor Day

June 14 is the World Blood Donor Day and the day of promoting volunteer blood donations. On this occasion, the Ministry of Health and the National Blood Transfusion Centre, supported by the U.S .Government through the USAID project for preventing AIDS/HIV and B and C hepatitis will organise the national conference “Safe blood transfusions in Moldova – actualities and prospects”, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the organisers, about 200 doctors will participate in the conference. Among others, the conference will be attended by representatives from the local public administration, NGO members, representatives of patient associations and delegates from the international organisations dealing with safe blood transfusions in Moldova. Ion Ababii, the Minister of Health, and Michael D. Kirby, the U.S. ambassador in Moldova are also expected to attend the forum. At the conference, there will be presented the preliminary results of a recent study on people’s attitude, knowledge and behaviour regarding blood donations. There will also be organised a blood drive, in which some of the officials present at the conference will also participate. The conference will begin at 10 am, at the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemiteanu”.
