Moldova’s Mihail Latîșev was proclaimed world champion following a five-win streak in the under-81 kg category at the Junior Judo World Championships taking place in Ecuador.
The 19-year-old bested Marcell Demeter (Hungary), Sunatullo Loiqov (Tajikistan), Bright Maddaloni (Italy), Aurelien Bonferroni (Switzerland) and Arnaud Aregba (France).
In the under-66 kg category, Moldova’s Radu Izvoreanu finished in fifth place, after being defeated by Cuba’s Kimy Bravo Blanco in the fight for the bronze medal.
