Judges of Supreme Court of Justice tender resignations

A number of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice submitted their resignations to the Superior Council of Magistracy. In its November 6 meeting, the Council accepted the resignations and the decisions are to be issued to Parliament, IPN reports.

The judges who resigned are: Tatiana Vieru, Dumitru Visternicean, Iulia Sârcu, Valeriu Doagă and Elena Kovalenko, who all served for over 30 years. Superior Council of Magistracy president Victor Micu said it is regrettable that judges with a rich experience who contributed to strengthening the independence of the judiciary leave the posts. The resignations were examined in the absence of the judges. A contest was announced to fill the vacancies.

The same day the Superior Council of Magistracy accepted the resignations of Ion Cojocari, who vacated the post of judge at the Comrat Court, and of Valentina Kriuchkova, who left the post of judge at the Călărași Court. The agenda also included the resignation of Victoria Sanduța, who intended to vacate the post of judge at the Chisinau City Court, but the judge asked to withdraw her application.
