Judges’ Association rejects TI-Moldova study results

The Judges’ Association rejects the results of the survey presented by Transparency International Moldova (TI-Moldova), which shows that the majority of the people think the judiciary is the most corrupt system. Carrying out justice isn’t an activity meant to satisfy all the litigants, reads a statement of the association, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “Without questioning the freedom of expression of mass media, we remain skeptical about the methods of investigation used upon an indeterminable sample”, reads the statement. The executive of the Judges’ Association of Moldova explains that the specific field of activity is related to committed crimes and contraventions, as well as legal conflicts. “That is why a priori a large part of the litigants are unhappy with the very fact that justice is done. A convict or a person who lost the trial irrevocably cannot admire justice in general, because this person is unhappy with its result in particular”, reads the judges’ statement. The association says that usually, the act of justice implies trial costs that are perceived differently by litigants. The judges say that the need to impose a state tax on civil causes determines very strong negative reactions from plaintiffs. The fees charged by lawyers are perceived similarly, either when paid in advance or according to the outcome of trials. The Judges’ Association of Moldova stressed that considering the judges’ relatively austere conditions of work, their efforts must be not only properly understood, but also appreciated more honestly.
