Judge Nicolae Nogai keeps his post

Nicolae Nogai will continue working as a judge at the Bender Court of Appeals. The Supreme Council of Magistrates on December 6 rejected Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim’s application to dismiss the judge from his post, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think the performance of the duties by a judge who is prosecuted can stain our justice. The people can no longer have confidence in such judges and the Supreme Council of Magistrates shouldn’t defend them,” the minister, who is an ex officio member of the Council, said during debates. “Any member of the Council can demand that a judge be dismissed and the Council has the right to take such a decision.” At the end of the debates, the Supreme Council of Magistrates decided not to discharge Nicolae Nogai, arguing a decision on his dismissal should be taken by the prosecutor general. Nicolae Nogai is accused of illegally legalizing the sale of shares in Moldova Agroindbank. Earlier, the Council deprived him of immunity at the request of Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko.
