President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree to dismiss Lilia Vasilevich from the post of judge for committing a disciplinary deviation, at the suggestion of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, IPN reports.

An inquiry launched by the Judiciary Inspectorate following a notification from the Prosecutor’s Office established that the judge passed a sentence to put on probation a recidivist drug trafficker.

The culprit was acquitted in 2012 and one year later committed a very serious offense. Under the legislation, when such offenses are committed and in case of recidivism, probation is not allowed.

Lilia Vasilevici had worked as judge at the Centru District Court since 1996.
